Stack Overflow Launches

What a cool new website.
Stack Overflow has been upgraded to public beta. Right now, I would say its going to be a cool resource for programmers.
I been hearing about this project for months mainly from Jeff and Joel (from the team) and this is my first look at it, and I must say it is very well built. I still have my doubts on some features like the badges, but I like a lot some others like the points system where you have more power of editing when you contribute more (Once the system learns to trust you, you’ll be able to edit anything, much like Wikipedia).
The description from the site:
Stack Overflow is a programming Q & A site that’s free. Free to ask questions, free to answer questions, free to read, free to index, built with plain old HTML, no fake rot13 text on the home page, no scammy google-cloaking tactics, no salespeople, no JavaScript windows dropping down in front of the answer asking for $12.95 to go away. You can register if you want to collect karma and win valuable flair that will appear next to your name, but otherwise, it’s just free. And fast. Very, very fast.
MacOS X Leopard on your PC
1 November 2007 in OS | Comments (1)
I’m pretty sure you already know about the Apple Leopard launch. And if you own a Mac, you most likely already buyed your own DVD.
As far as I’m concerned this is a great update to those who appreciate Apple OS.
The most interesting stuff about this launch, is that not even a full day got by until the PC users could enjoy this new version on their system. The famous hackers that brought almost all previous versions to the PC, already managed to create a patched version for those who still use the more powerful PC.
You can find a simple How to Install Leopard on your PC in 3 easy steps! at Hack Attack.
I personally find the idea of not making the OS available for PC users very lame. Seems almost like Apple doesn’t want it software to compete with Windows… or maybe its because the OS would break if it were to support the hardware Windows supports?
By the way, if I were to bash the new Leopard, I would certainly start with the lack of Java 6…

Log Into Windows Using Facial Recognition Software
26 July 2007 in Software & Windows | Comments (0)
How cool is this? The BananaScreen software lets you login to your computer using facial recognition software.
All you need to use the software is a PC and a webcam. BanananScreen will lock your computer when you move away from it, and, when you return, BananaScreen unlocks the PC in less time than it would take you to enter a password. To use BananaScreen, there are 3 easy steps: download the software, create your face model, then login! Currently, BananaScreen works on Windows 2000 and XP. Vista support is not guaranteed at the moment, but daring users are reporting that it works for them. The site claims that a Mac version will also be available soon.
Its not entirely foolproof (still in beta) so I wouldn’t trust high secured workstations with this authentication method.

TwitterMSN

Twitter, the all so famous web service that started a revolution by allowing users to answer and share their responses to the simple question: “What are you doing?” can now be used inside the MSN Messenger.
The new 3rd party service, called TwitterMSN, integrates Twitter into your Windows Live Messenger application.
The TwitterMSN service allows you to update your Twitter account from your MSN account. To use the service, you just have to add msn@twittermsn.com to your Window Live Messenger friends list. Additionally, this third party service also lets you receive the friends’ updates, automatically converts URLs to TinyURL, sends tweets even when Twitter is down, and allows you to extend past Twitter’s built-in 140 character limit.
